Barclays is offering a free service to its personal current account customers to personalise their debit card with a image of their choice. I jumped at this opportunity. Apparently, Barclays has offered this feature to their Premier Customers for quite some time.
Since there is no free lunch in the world, I suspect Barclays has figured that a personalised debit card is correlated with increased spending. But I believe this is a trend in the retail banking sector. Just like mobile handsets, personalisation drives sales and reduces churn.
